ode to the found
Made and left on beach outside of L’Archives Du Cœur (Heartbeat Archives) in Naoshima, Japan, 2025
Found charcoal, my Grandmother’s ashes, found stick.
On site, day two
In process, day two
On the beach outside of L’Archives Du Cœur (Heartbeat Archives) on Teshima Island, I mixed a small amount of my Grandmother’s ashes with charcoal and created a portal on the rocky cliff. Each night, some manner of weather would erase my portal and each day, I returned to the site (6 times) and filled the circle back in.
An ode to the tension between holding tight to memory and allowing it to fade. An altar, a gift, a gravestone.
From left to right: day one, day two (before re-work), day two (after re-work), day one, day two. I did not document subsequent days.
